Becoming a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Becoming a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

If you are interested in becoming a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, you will need to undergo the appropriate training for the specialty. To become a Board Certified plastic surgeon, a qualified doctor must successfully complete five years of medical school, at least three years of residency in the specialty area of plastic surgery and at least two years of fellowship training in the field of plastic surgery. You can rest assured that a Board Certified plastic surgeon is specifically trained in helping you reach your cosmetic goals through various procedures.

In order to become a Board Certified plastic surgery specialist, you will first need to complete a bachelor’s degree in medicine or allied medical science. You will also have to pass the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), which is often considered as the pre-requisite for any medical program in the United States. The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is designed to determine if the applicant has the academic and clinical skills necessary to properly perform specific surgical procedures. Because it measures critical reasoning skills, the MCAT is often used to determine whether a student has the ability to perform certain procedures.

When you graduate from medical school and complete your residency in the field of plastic surgery, you will be ready to get your hands on your medical license. After you have passed the required examinations, you will then be able to practice as a plastic surgeon under the supervision of a Board Certified medical doctor. To practice as a licensed doctor, you will need to go through the state Board of Medicine. To become a licensed plastic surgery specialist, you must also complete additional training before becoming a licensed plastic surgeon.

There are several other requirements that plastic surgery specialists must fulfill before they can take the certification exam. These include successfully completing a two-year undergraduate program at an accredited institution, in addition to successful completion of the written medical examination known as the MCQ. During the exam, you will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and ability in order to show the board that you are indeed knowledgeable in performing specific types of plastic surgery.

Once you have completed all the requirements for a Board Certified plastic surgery, you will be able to take the exam and be called a certified practitioner by the board. A Certificate of Practice by your name or by your initials indicates that you are competent enough to practice as a professional plastic surgeon.

You will also have to pass the Board Certification Exam several times before being able to sit for the licensing examination. Once you pass the exam, your name will appear in your state’s official list of board certified practitioners. It is up to you to maintain your certification with the state board.
