Beware of doctors who aren’t Board Certified in Plastic Surgeons. Doctors who do not have Board Certification are often referred to as “unlicensed”under the table.” In some states, it is illegal to practice plastic surgery on the general public, without being Board Certified. In other states, it is not as important if the doctor has been Board Certified, since the patients and/or their parents will not be aware of the physician’s credentials until something goes wrong. The important thing to know is that if a doctor does not have certification and is advertising a procedure, the patient must make an informed decision about his or her health-care professional, since there is no guarantee of good results.
Board Certified in . Beware that doctors who are not board certified can still say either “certified”certified by ” without defining by which board they are board certified. They can advertise plastic surgery but have a board in a totally different field, like Dermatology or OB/GYN, or might make false claims about their qualifications-e.g., “we are a member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery,” “we are a member of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery”

Some of the many examples of doctors who are not board certified include dermatologist who is an author, editor, reviewer, researcher, consultant or speaker, and others. A physician may have been Board Certified in some field, but not Board Certified in all of the fields related to that field.
There are maAny reasons why some doctors are not board certified. Some are too busy to attend continuing education courses, or do not have time to attend classes and can get away with their lack of education. Some doctors who are board certified have worked with the same plastic surgeons for many years, which means they have built a relationship. And have enough confidence in each other to be able to perform plastic surgery, despite not having been Board Certified in plastic surgery.
The board certifications for plastic surgeons vary by area, so if you are looking for one, it is very important to ask as many questions as possible. If the answer doesn’t help you, ask another doctor. If you’re unsure, talk to someone at the board and see what they recommend.
